Since I already discussed first drafts in a previous post, let me take a moment to talk about another aspect of writing: brainstorming and planning.

Personally, I brainstorm by talking to close friends or a stranger about some parts of my story that I haven’t figured out like the setting and the main villain. I tend to record the most important stuff from the conversation so I don’t have to go back and scroll through a ton of messages.

In regards to planning, I used to plan my story using the traditional method of writing a summary and moving on from there. This method didn’t always work out for me and my stories, causing me to abandon some of my ongoing novel projects. I still write summaries, but my close friends convinced me to try different methods.

How do you all brainstorm and plan your stories? Is there a specific “recipe” you follow?

I talk about the plot to my siblings (who point out story flaws and their opinions) and write down random thoughts and put it into a folder. Afterward, I go and make character sheets because my stories are usually character led. cx Then, I start writing.

Wow! You’re lucky to be able to discuss your stories with your siblings. 😮
