Lately, I’ve been editing the prologue and first chapter of Ecaria instead of writing. My motivation for writing has been waning again and it seems like there are a million issues that I need to tackle before I can move forward with this novel. Not to mention all of the distractions that eventually force me to succumb to boredom.
The other day, I was doing a free Skillshare class about writing compelling characters and character studies. It made me realize that my main character, Narisa Windsong, doesn’t have an internal conflict nor an external one. If I haven’t figured out such details, my novel will fall flat on its face because it seems like she won’t grow and change fluidly throughout the narrative.
This isn’t new as the original version of Ecaria did not get very far into the plot before I decided to revamp it into the story it is today. Character development as a whole has always been one of my weaknesses as a writer and I hope that working on Ecaria will help me improve in that area.
Anyone struggling and/or dealing with similar issues? I’d like to hear some advice from my fellow writers out there in the WordPress universe.
