Have you ever taken a Creative Writing course before?
I never had the chance to do that until I started taking college classes at Beacon College last year. While I was going over my class schedule face-to-face with my Learning Specialist during my second semester as a college freshman, I found out that there was a Creative Writing course being offered on campus in the Spring of 2018. When my Learning Specialist asked me if I was interested in taking the course, I said yes.
- The Creative Writing course had a class size of about 9 students including myself.
- The professor, , was a writer on top of being an English professor at Beacon.
- A majority of the course material focused on the tools of the craft and how to apply them in our own writing.
- For the final assignment of the semester, all students were required to write a 10-12 page long short story and submit it to a literary magazine or journal.
Overall, I found the course to be very enlightening and informative. For my final, I wrote a short story about a war that occurred long before the events of my unfinished novel, Aya’s Curse, and submitted it to the Matador Review. I’m currently waiting to receive a response back about my submission.
