My Graphic Design Journey
Have you ever wondered how I became a graphic designer?
In The Beginning
Well, it all started back in 2010 when I was 13. I was super into making forums and websites at the time. I eventually learned that I needed to make graphics in order to make my forums and websites look nice and attract new visitors & convince them to keep coming back.
So, with that goal in mind, I looked for websites and online tools that allowed me to create graphics from scratch and/or edit images without paying a single cent out of pocket. I stumbled upon SumoPaint, Pixlr Editor, Picmonkey, and a few other websites that I can’t name at the moment. Looking back, I’ll admit that my graphics weren’t the greatest at the beginning of my journey since I was completely new to graphic design, but it was totally worth it.
The Next Stage
In 2014, I learned about Wattpad and I decided to make an account on there in February of that same year. While I was checking out the Community Clubs, I came across the Multimedia Designs Club and decided to join. A majority of the graphics made by members of the Multimedia Designs Club were book covers since people needed graphics for their stories. Their designs inspired me to begin creating my own covers with the same tools that I had found back in 2010.
The Present Day
Nowadays, I use Photoshop CC 2018 and Canva to design graphics whenever I need to make them. I learned how to use Photoshop in a course called Digital Imaging & Design at Beacon College. I’ve grown to love the program because of the experience I gained from taking the course. My best coursework from Digital Imaging & Design is currently being showcased in my portfolio.
This isn’t the end of my journey. I know I still have a long way to go before I can call myself a professional graphic designer, but I’m proud of the progress I’ve made over the years. Graphic design is my passion and I want to keep it that way.
How, when, and why did you start making graphics?
